With the recent launch of Xen Client by Citrix, the benefits of desktop virtulisation can now extend beyond environments with fixed connectivity, to laptop and notebook users, providing the benefit of centralised management and security, whilst maintaining a flexible user experience.

Taking advantage of technologies such as “Flex Cast” and the “HDX” high definition user experience, provided within Citrix Xen Desktop, allows organisations to provide their users with systems that meet all their needs; without sacrificing on quality of delivery.

Having already completed a number of successful Xen Desktop rollouts, Krome are offering pre-packaged solutions which make it easier for people new to VDI to implement their desktop virtualisation projects.

The packages are fully configurable and can be tailored to meet individual requirements, but give an initial indication of the costs to implement a VDI environment. In many cases a proof of concept can be agreed and provided upon request.

Details about Krome’s ‘VDI-In-A-Box’ solutions can be accessed here: VDI in a Box

The challenge.

The team at Krome have undertaken the challenge of completing a ‘Steel Man’ relay triathlon. This is quite a challenge considering half of the team struggle to walk to the pub without kicking up a sweat.

The full Standard (aka Olympic) distance race is held at the fantastic Dorney Lake, the Rowing venue for the 2012 Olympic Games. The SteelMan Triathlon is a 1,500m open water swim in the clear, clean waters of the rowing lake before taking to the closed, flat road circuit for an 8-lap bike course covering 40.8k. The final 10k run follows a 4 lap loop along the side of the rowing tank on the tarmac paths.

We have 2 teams of 3 competing against each other; in the lake, completing the swim we have Lee Collas and George Kenny, cycling for glory will be Mark Stephens and Claudia Smith and running to victory (they hope) will be Simeon Taylor and Wayne Trunchion.

All for a good cause.

We are raising money for Royal Brompton and Harefield charitable fund. Charity Registration No. 1053584. The Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Trust is the largest postgraduate specialist heart and lung centre in the UK. We hope to raise as much money as possible to contribute to the specialist equipment needed to help with the research, diagnosis and treatment of patients suffering with heart and lung problems. To read more about the trust, please visit their website.

Show your support.

If you would like to show your support for the Krome Triathlon team, please make an online donation via our Just Giving page, anything that you can afford to give, is much appreciated, and will make it all worth it when we are half way round the track wondering why we agreed to do this.

Krome are proud to champion the causes of various local and national charities, and frequently donate IT equipment and monetary support to causes we believe in. We are proud that our team members feel equally as compelled to give up their own time to participate in such a great challenge for such a worthy cause. Good luck to you!

Walton On Thames, Surrey – Krome Technologies are happy to support the Elizabeth Foundation by sponsoring local man, Rik Vercoe, to run the North Pole Marathon.

Raising money for a good cause.

Rik has been training to run the marathon at the North Pole in April 2010, in order to raise money for “The Elizabeth Foundation”. As a keen runner and having participated in the London marathon, as well as other similar events, Rik wanted to do something different, and saw this as an ideal opportunity to raise funds, and the profile, of this UK childrens’ charity.

About the Elizabeth Foundation.

The Elizabeth Foundation is a national charity supporting infants and pre-school children with hearing loss; providing support and encouragement for them and their families. It is the Elizabeth Foundation’s belief that every deaf child has the right to be given the opportunity of learning to listen and communicate, see their website for more information about the Elizabeth Foundation and their work.

About Rik.

Rik is a site director for the contact centre “The Listening Company” who are also sponsoring him to compete in the event. Rik has been training for over a year; running approximately 45 miles a week, in preparation for this event. His total training schedule for the North Pole marathon was around 18 months, and included the completion of the Polar Circle Marathon, as well as taking part in a 45 mile event on Jan 16th as part of his training regime.

Why Krome?

Rik’s aim was to raise at least £5000 for The Elizabeth Foundation by participating in the North Pole Marathon. With The Listening Company’s sponsorship he got off to a good start, but in order to maximise the funds raised for his chosen charity, Rik approached the Directors of Krome for further sponsorship, as well as other local organisations, to provide their support.

Krome are proud to champion the causes of local charities, and freqently donate IT equipment and monetary support to causes they believe in. Having seen the preparation Rik put into the North Pole Marathon, Krome agreed to help him to raise money for the foundation.

You can follow the event’s progress here: North Pole Marathon

Everyone at Krome wishes Rik good luck and a safe return from his challenge in the North Pole!

Walton On Thames, Surrey – Krome Technologies, leading IT consultancy and reseller, announce that following a formal tender process they have been officially selected to supply and install ICT, ILT and AV equipment in connection with the West Kent College campus redevelopment programme, named Campus 21.

Regenerating West Kent College for the 21st Century.

Campus 21 is one of the largest projects of its kind in the further education sector, the completed campus will provide 21st century education and training facilities for learners throughout the locality. Work is already underway in preparation for state-of-the-art facilities which will result in a superb educational environment.

The building works are on schedule and students and staff will move into the first completed phase during Spring 2010. The premises, due to be completed late summer 2011 with the final demolition and external works extending into the autumn, will give 23,000 square metres of space, similar to the current campus size.

A competitive and proactive approach.

Krome were one of 8 organisations selected by West Kent to respond to the Campus 21 tender. John Mackenzie, Head of Network Services at West Kent College explains why Krome were chosen as the successful supplier: “Krome were awarded the tender contract on the basis of a highly competitive quotation. Krome also scored highly on their flexibility and the thoughtful approach they took to explaining how they would support the College in the implementation of its ICT requirements. Their ability and willingness to act proactively, and work hand-in-hand with the College and its builders shone through in their tender response”.

Krome have also been selected in conjunction with Planet eStream, to provide West Kent’s North Farm site with new flagship workshops, giving the students the very latest in interactive learning technology.

Project planning commences.

The Campus 21 contract, estimated to have a value of approximately £1 million, will involve the complete planning, procurement, warehousing, delivery and deployment of all ICT, ILT and AV equipment required to fit out the West Kent College new building, currently in the latter stages of construction.

As the chosen supplier, Krome Technologies will manage the complete deployment project, including equipment procurement, warehousing, pre-configuration and installation of all hardware, software and Audio Visual equipment in all required rooms and spaces within the new campus building.

Krome will also be responsible for the testing and quality assurance of the equipment deployed. Deployment will be managed to meet a specific project schedule, and in a sequence that matches the dates at which each of five floors become available for ICT fit-out.

Krome’s Technical Director, Rupert Mills comments “Krome are delighted to have been awarded the West Kent Campus 21 refurbishment project, we are confident that we can meet the colleges’ requirements and will be able to have the campus rooms completed in time for the necessary project deadlines. Our technical team are well versed in completing large scale deployments within tight deadlines, having completed similar size deployments for our corporate and government clients such as Bupa and Network Rail. Our team are an ‘in-house’ resource and this enables us to ensure flexibility for the client and a high quality of work, something we believe has been key in being awarded this deployment from WKC.”
