On the 26th May 2011 Krome Sales Director Sam Mager, took part in an IT industry white-collar charity boxing event organised by CRN UK.

The Fight Night event, now in its fourth year raised a total of £41,050 for charity at its last event in 2010. The final figures for the 2011 event are still being calculated, but it is estimated to a similar figure.

Each year industry professionals, with no boxing experience, are invited to apply for a place, following a fitness evaluation, 18 contenders are chosen to participate, each fighting for their own individual charities.

Krome Sales Director Sam Mager choose to pledge his support to The White Lodge Centre who are a local charity to Krome that do fantastic work with disabled adults, children and their families in the community.

The event was held at prestigious London venue, The Brewery, Chiswell Street. With over 450 industry professionals in attendance poised and ready to watch the evening’s entertainment. The black tie event included 9 bouts of boxing along with several charity auctions taking place in between fights. The brave fighters taking part were from a range of channel vendors distributors and reseller partners and included channel names from the likes of HP, IBM, McAfee, Westcoast, Comstor and more.

Sam’s fight was the very last bout of the evening, and was definitely worth the wait, each fight comprised of just 3 rounds and Sam was announced the winner, having been awarded all 3 rounds by the judges.

Mager comments “I was delighted to be chosen to take part in the event, the training was intense but it certainly paid off. I thoroughly enjoyed the evening and am proud to have been announced the winner at the end of my fight, all of the fighters worked incredibly hard and considering none of us had stepped foot in a boxing ring before, the whole team gave an impressive performance.”

The proceeds made from the night, a figure estimated to be around £20,000, are to split between the 18 fighters nominated charities. Additionally each fighter raised money through their own individual sponsorship, with Sam raising £1,136.25 through online donations.

A final figure has not yet been released as to the total made but we are pleased to know that with Sam’s sponsorship and the events contributions we are looking forward to making a donation of approximately £2,500 to The White Lodge Centre in Chertsey.

When asked why Sam decided to participate in this years event, Sam responded “It’s a great opportunity for Krome to help a local charity, whilst giving the team a good laugh at my expense along the way.”

On the night, there will be a 3-course black tie dinner, an auction and other exciting ways to raise extra money. All profits raised from CRN Fight Night 2011 will be equally divided between the contenders’ nominated charities.

Thursday April 7th 2011 – 11:00AM – 12:00PM (UK)

For customers who are planning a deployment of Exchange 2010, choosing the right storage architecture can be a confusing task. Storage requirements are growing due to increased mailbox capacities and the elimination of .pst file capability.

This webinar will explore Exchange 2010 storage requirements, and consider implementation cost, data protection, storage management and ongoing cost of operations for various storage options.

Among the questions to be answered are:

What are the considerations when choosing between DAS and shared storage ?

How will the personal archive feature affect storage choices ?

Is virtualising Exchange 2010 a good idea ?

Please join us and Dell for a discussion of the considerations when designing a storage architecture for Microsoft(R) Exchange which will lead to a simple-to-manage and efficient operation.

Through 2012, 60% of virtualised servers will be less secure than the physical servers they replace, according to Gartner. Analysts warned that many virtualisation deployment projects are being undertaken without involving the information security team in the initial architecture and planning stages.

Walton On Thames, Surrey – Krome Technologies enter two teams for ‘Steel Man’ Triathlon, raising money for The Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Trust.

The challenge.

The team at Krome have undertaken the challenge of completing a ‘Steel Man’ relay triathlon. This is quite a challenge considering half of the team struggle to walk to the pub without kicking up a sweat.

The full Standard (aka Olympic) distance race is held at the fantastic Dorney Lake, the Rowing venue for the 2012 Olympic Games. The SteelMan Triathlon is a 1,500m open water swim in the clear, clean waters of the rowing lake before taking to the closed, flat road circuit for an 8-lap bike course covering 40.8k. The final 10k run follows a 4 lap loop along the side of the rowing tank on the tarmac paths.

We have 2 teams of 3 competing against each other; in the lake, completing the swim we have Lee Collas and George Kenny, cycling for glory will be Mark Stephens and Claudia Smith and running to victory (they hope) will be Simeon Taylor and Wayne Trunchion.

All for a good cause.

We are raising money for Royal Brompton and Harefield charitable fund. Charity Registration No. 1053584. The Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Trust is the largest postgraduate specialist heart and lung centre in the UK. We hope to raise as much money as possible to contribute to the specialist equipment needed to help with the research, diagnosis and treatment of patients suffering with heart and lung problems. To read more about the trust, please visit their website.

Show your support.

If you would like to show your support for the Krome Triathlon team, please make an online donation via our Just Giving page, anything that you can afford to give, is much appreciated, and will make it all worth it when we are half way round the track wondering why we agreed to do this.

Krome are proud to champion the causes of various local and national charities, and frequently donate IT equipment and monetary support to causes we believe in. We are proud that our team members feel equally as compelled to give up their own time to participate in such a great challenge for such a worthy cause. Good luck to you!

How would you know if your data had leaked into the wrong hands?

Consider the impact if your most confidential data was inadvertently leaked over email, erroneously posted to a public Web site, or left unsecured on a laptop or USB drive.

If it were customer information, would it violate PCI or HIPAA regulations? If it were intellectual property that was lost, what would be the long-term financial impact to your profit margin? And if it were happening right now, how would you know?

Join us for a Data Loss Prevention Briefing on February 26th at Mercedes Benz World and find out how Websense prevents data leaks and can help secure your competitive advantage by enhancing compliance, managing risk and securing business processes.
